Opildnet af en ny, socialistisk \u00e5nd pr\u00f8ver han at bryde med Venstre-b\u00f8nderne, men det bliver ikke en let kamp. Da han endvidere forlover sig med Else, der er i tjeneste p\u00e5 herreg\u00e5rden N\u00e6rupg\u00e5rd, bliver kampen personlig. For bondemanden Hermann er ogs\u00e5 forelsket i den smukke pige, og han vil ikke s\u00e5dan uden videre give slip p\u00e5 hende. Morten Korch (f. 1876 - d. 1954), Danmarks mest folkek\u00e6re forfatter, begyndte sit virke i 1898 med novellesamlingen \u00b4\u00b4Humoresker - Fyensk Hum\u00f8r\u00b4\u00b4, der indeholdt en r\u00e6kke skitser og fort\u00e6llinger, alle p\u00e5 klingende fynsk.
